Dr. Robert M. Califf, U.S. Food and Drug Administration commissioner, and Dr. Robert A. Harrington, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine, sat down for a fireside chat Oct. 15 in Weill Cornell Medicine's Uris Auditorium. 

On Aug. 13, the 106 first-year medical students in Weill Cornell Medical College's Class of 2028 received their short white coats during the annual White Coat Ceremony, officially marking the beginning of their medical education.

Dr. Javaid I. Sheikh, dean of Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar, has been awarded the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Exemplary Achievement Award by Weill Cornell Medicine.

On May 16, 389 expected graduates – 109 medical doctors, 46 physician assistants, 80 with doctorates and 154 with master of science degrees – in the Class of 2024 received their degrees from Weill Cornell Medicine during the institution’s annual commencement ceremony at Carnegie Hall.

Students from the Weill Cornell Medical College Class of 2024 were recognized for their dedication to scholarship, excellence in research, devotion to teaching and service and exceptional professional qualities on May 15 during Convocation.

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) awarded Cornell University medical degrees to 50 new doctors—the largest graduating cohort to date—at the institution’s annual graduation ceremony on May 9.

Dr. Myles Wolf, an esteemed physician-scientist who specializes in nephrology, has been appointed chair of the Joan and Sanford I. Weill Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medicine and physician-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, effective July 1.

Weill Cornell Medicine’s Celebration of Diversity, part of the institution’s sixth annual Diversity Week, was held on April 15. The awardees were honored for their commitment to diversity and inclusivity in academic medicine through exemplary contributions in mentorship, research, clinical care, community service and advocacy.

Of the 109 Weill Cornell Medical College students graduating in May, 107 garnered residencies, with 87 percent of them matching to top postgraduate residency specialty programs.

The program’s annual white coat ceremony celebrated the Class of 2026 and represented the start of the students’ new educational experience.

Dr. Sumit Gupta, a physician-scientist whose research focuses on vulnerable subpopulations of children with cancer, has been awarded the eighth annual Gale and Ira Drukier Prize in Children’s Health Research, Weill Cornell Medicine announced today. 

A historic investment from Board of Fellows member Israel Englander will advance Weill Cornell Medicine’s growing research enterprise and support critical initiatives throughout the institution. 

In her new role, Sheil will jointly lead the Office of External Affairs and oversee its more than 40-member Division of Communications and Public Affairs.

The Dean’s Symposium  on Innovation and Entrepreneurship, which took place Nov. 7, celebrated innovation and Weill Cornell Medicine’s entrepreneurial spirit.

Located one block from Weill Cornell Medicine’s main campus on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the site will add approximately 200,000 square feet of dedicated research space. 

Garzio, a distinguished academic medicine administrator, will start her new role in early February.

The institution is expanding its real estate agreement at 575 Lexington Ave. to provide state-of-the-art clinical care at the Midtown Manhattan location by 2025.
