Dr. Mario Gaudino, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Professor in Cardiothoracic Surgery II, has been appointed editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery. Published by the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the journal features original scientific reports that document significant clinical and experimental advances in the fields of cardiac, congenital, vascular and thoracic surgery.

Dr. Hedvig Hricak, professor of radiology, has been awarded the American College of Radiology’s Gold Medal. The ACR board of chancellors named two gold medalists in recognition of their extraordinary contributions to the field of radiology and outstanding service to the ACR. Honorees will be recognized at the association’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C. in May.

Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, chair of the Department of Surgery and the Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor of Surgery, was selected as an honoree of the 2025 Columbus Celebration by the Columbus Citizens Foundation, joining the Grand Marshal to help lead this year’s Columbus Day Parade. The foundation has organized the annual parade since 1929—recognizing Italian American heritage on New York City’s Fifth Avenue.

Dr. Holly Prigerson, Endowed Professor of Diagnostics in Radiology and professor of sociology in medicine and in radiology, and Dr. Cora Sternberg, professor of medicine, were included in the 2025 “Best Female Scientists in the World” ranking by Research.com. The ranking encompasses a comprehensive evaluation of more than 175,000 scientist profiles, identified through a diverse array of bibliometric resources and extending across all major scientific disciplines.
