Three trophies

Dr. Lily Belfi, professor of clinical radiology, received one of the 2024 Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Distinguished Teacher Awards by the Association of American Medical Colleges. The award was established in 1988 by the AΩA medical honor society to recognize up to four gifted educators who have made outstanding contributions and have distinguished themselves in medical student education.

Dr. Melanie Gao, pediatrics fellow, received one of the 2024 Marshall Klaus Perinatal Research Awards from the American Academy of Pediatrics. The awards aim to enhance and support the development of research skills among physicians training in neonatal-perinatal medicine. These awards provide partial support intended to assist outstanding fellows in initiating or completing their research projects.

Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, The Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor of Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College and chair of the Department of Surgery, was elected as the new chair of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Board of Regents for a one-year term. In this role as chai, Dr. Michelassi will work closely with ACS’s executive director and CEO to lead the finance and executive committees to help formulate policy and supervise the college’s overall management.

Dr. Nalini Tata, neurosurgery resident, was selected as one of 15 White House Fellows for 2024-2025. The program offers exceptional young leaders first-hand experience working at the highest levels of the federal government. Fellows spend a year working with senior White House staff, cabinet secretaries and other top-ranking administration officials, and leave the administration equipped to serve as better leaders in their communities.

Dr. Yifan Peng, associate professor of population health sciences, was elected a fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics. Dr. Peng will be one of 25 fellows inducted at the American Medical Informatics Association’s annual symposium, held in November, which presents leading-edge scientific research on biomedical and health informatics. ACMI is an honorary college of elected informatics fellows from the United States and abroad who have made significant and sustained contributions to the field of medical informatics.
