Celebrating 125 Years of Excellence in Education

Weill Cornell Medicine has been at the forefront of medical education since its inception, with a steadfast commitment to providing the best training for generations of physicians.

Founded in 1898, the institution—known at the time as Cornell University Medical College—sought to provide students with the opportunity to be more active participants in their instruction through laboratory work and hands-on training with patients.

Through the years, Weill Cornell Medicine has evolved into a world-class academic institution and a leader in health care, both in New York City and beyond, with a longstanding reputation of excellence in medical education, scientific discovery and patient care.

Now, as Weill Cornell Medicine celebrates 125 years, we look back at those early days and what made the institution unique.
