Dr. Marcus Reidenberg, professor of pharmacology and medicine, has received the 2001 Alumnus of the Year Award from Temple University School of Medicine. Dr. Reidenberg received his M.D. from Temple in 1958. The award, conferred annually by Temple's medical school and its alumni association's board of directors, honors Dr. Reidenberg for his many contributions to research and medical education, as well as his advancements in the field of pharmacology in the United States and abroad.
Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld, the Ida and Theo Rossi Distinguished Professor of Clinical Medicine, was honored as the recipient of the 2001 Award for Impact on Public Opinion Through the Media sponsored by Research!America, a leading organization that promotes medical and health research as a national priority. The author of nine best-selling books, Dr. Rosenfeld also serves as medical editor for Parade magazine, medical consultant for Fox Cable News Network, medical correspondent for CBS Morning News, and health columnist for Vogue magazine. The Research!America award was presented to Dr. Rosenfeld at the organization's 5th annual Advocacy Awards Dinner held at the National Academy of Sciences on March 20.
Three residents in Weill Cornell's Department of Urology—Drs. Jennifer Tash, Glenn Gmyrek and Jonathan Coleman—recently earned special honors at the Ferdinand C. Valentine Urology Residents Essay Awards presentation jointly sponsored by the New York Section of the American Urological Association and the New York Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Tash, a fourth-year resident, won the First Prize in Laboratory Research for her paper on "Tfgf-7 Regulates the Formation of the Intermediate Layers of the Bladder Urothelium." Her research was done in the laboratory of Dr. Doris Herzlinger, associate professor of physiology and biophysics.
Dr. Gmyrek, a fifth-year resident, won the First Prize in Clinical Research for his paper on "Prognostic Significance of C-Met in Gleason Sum 6 and 7 Prostate Cancer." Dr. Gmyrek did this work in collaboration with Dr. Beatrice Knudsen, assistant professor of pathology.
Dr. Coleman, a fifth-year resident, won an award for his paper on "Applying a New Technique of High-Frequency Ultrasound and Power Spectrum Analysis for Tissue Characterization of the Infertile Testis." His work, which was done in collaboration with Dr. Peter Schlegel in the Department of Urology, derived from earlier ultrasound studies directed by his father, Dr. Jackson Coleman, chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and a leading authority on ophthalmologic ultrasound.
Dr. Dattatreyudu Nori, professor of clinical radiology, will be a special honoree at the American Cancer Society/Queens' gala benefit for Hope-Progress-Answers to be held on May 11.
