Dr. Setu Vora, clinical fellow in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, took this photo while on his honeymoon in Sydney, Australia, and it became the cover of a recent Archives of Internal Medicine edition.
While on his honeymoon in Sydney, Australia, Dr. Setu Vora, clinical fellow in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, spotted a beautiful giraffe at the Taronga Zoo and was convinced of the Kodak moment. And good thing he was—his prized photograph became the cover of a recent edition of the highly reputable Archives of Internal Medicine (Jan. 26, 2004, Vol. 164, Num. 2).
"The stark contrast and paradox of seeing an exotic giraffe in that setting fascinated me. I almost expected to see the wide plains and sunset on the plains of Serengeti in the background, but instead we see the majestic skyline of Sydney," Dr. Vora said.
By the way, Dr. Vora has taken the liberty of naming the giraffe "Serengeti" and this is his first published photo. He also credits his wife, Dr. Carina Vora, a dentist and faculty member at Columbia University's School of Dental & Oral Surgery, for being his "muse," adding, "I thank her for everything."
Dr. Vora trained thousands of miles away at Pramukhswami Medical College in India, but moved to the United States to complete his internal medicine residency at the University of Connecticut, where he was chief medical resident.

As a clinical fellow, Dr. Vora is involved in the care of patients in the medical intensive care unit and pulmonary consultation service. He performs procedures such as bronchoscopies under the supervision of attending physicians. In addition, under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Ronald Crystal, chief of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Dr. Vora was recently involved in the development of a genetic vaccine for SARS.
Outside of work, Dr. Vora enjoys medical humanities, especially investigative studies dealing with medicine in literature and the arts.
