New Appointments in Pediatrics

Dr. Barry Kosofsky

The Department of Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical College and the Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell announced two new appointments this fall. Dr. Barry Kosofsky, an expert in genetic and intrauterine factors that affect brain development, was named professor in the Department of Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical College and chief of the Division of Pediatric Neurology for Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. Dr. Mark Dovey, a specialist in the treatment of pediatric cystic fibrosis, was appointed assistant professor of pediatrics at the Medical College and chief of the Division of Allergy/Immunology/Pulmonary at the Hospital.

Dr. Kosofsky's interest centers on the impact of maternal substance abuse on brain development. He was previously associate neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and director of the Child Neurology Residency Training Program. Dr. Kosofsky currently serves as chair of the Scientific Selection Committee for the Child Neurological Society, and is the founder and director of the Substances of Abuse Exposure Follow-Up Clinic.

Dr. Dovey's research focuses on the clinical investigation of disease markers and new therapies for cystic fibrosis lung disease. Dr. Dovey was previously assistant in pulmonary medicine at Children's Hospital Boston.

Drs. Kosofsky and Dovey both held teaching positions at Harvard Medical School before coming to Weill Cornell. "Their demonstrated leadership makes them ideal division chiefs in the Department of Pediatrics," said Dr. Gerald Loughlin, chairman and the Nancy C. Paduano Professor of Pediatrics, and pediatrician-in-chief at Weill Cornell.
