
Elizabeth Wilson-Anstey
Elizabeth Wilson-Anstey, who has been senior administrative manager in the Office of Student Affairs, has been appointed assistant dean for student affairs, a newly created position at the Medical College.
For the past 26 years, Ms. Wilson-Anstey, a native of Georgetown, Guyana, has been affiliated with the Medical College. After leaving her hometown in 1968, Ms. Wilson-Anstey came to the United States, completing her high school education at St. Raymond's Academy for Girls in the Bronx. In April of 1976, she began her career at Cornell, as a senior administrative secretary in the Office of Minority Affairs. In 1983, she became an administrative manager in the Office of Student Affairs. After years of juggling roles of mom, employee and student, in 1993, Ms. Wilson-Anstey graduated magna cum laude from Hunter College with a bachelor's in psychology. Later, in 1999, she earned her master's in administration, leadership and technology from New York University's School of Education.
Ms. Wilson-Anstey's career at the Medical College has provided her with the opportunity to work closely with students. She has gained extensive experience in the Medical College's Office of Student Affairs as the senior administrative manager under Dr. Bruce Ballard, associate dean for student affairs and equal opportunity programs and associate professor of clinical psychiatry. Ms. Wilson-Anstey organizes the major activities of the office, including the Travelers Summer Research Fellowship Program for Premedical Minority Students, which was established in 1969 to give participants deeper insights into the wide range of options that exist for minority physicians; she represents the Medical College on undergraduate campus recruitment activities; coordinates weekends for accepted minority student applicants to the Medical College; and oversees the Community Service Program, which enables students to develop innovative approaches to education and health care.
In addition to her administrative duties, Ms. Wilson-Anstey counsels students in various areas that are in the purview of the Office of Student Affairs and represents the Medical College at the Minority Affairs section of the twice-yearly meetings of the 13 School Consortium and Association of American Colleges.
In her new role as assistant dean for student affairs, Ms. Wilson-Anstey will continue her work with medical students as well as represent the Medical College at medical student recruitment fairs throughout the United States.
Ms. Wilson-Anstey is the recipient of many awards, including the Recognition of Dedication and Service for Three Decades by the Diversity Committee of the Alumni Association of Weill Medical College (2000). Together with her husband, David, Ms. Wilson-Anstey has three children, two of whom are enrolled in universities and one in high school. She is a member of the Hunter College Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International, the Hunter College Alumni Board, and the Advisory Board of the Big Brothers, Big Sisters Program of Catholic Charities.
