Dr. Claudia Henschke, professor of radiology and chief of the Division of Chest Imaging, will present the winter lecture sponsored by the Medical College's AOA chapter on March 14 (5 p.m. in Uris Auditorium). Dr. Henschke will talk about the Early Lung Cancer Action Project, a major research initiative that is investigating the role of low-dose computed tomography imaging for screening high-risk individuals for lung cancer. Following the publication of Dr. Henschke's encouraging preliminary results in the British journal The Lancet, there has been widespread interest in expanding these studies in the U.S. and abroad. Weill Cornell's Department of Radiology has organized and hosted four international conferences on lung cancer screening, chaired by Dr. Henschke (the most recent was held February 23–25). On Feb. 15, Dr. Henschke was one of three keynote speakers at a special Congressional briefing on "Emerging Technologies for Early Detection" sponsored by the House Cancer Working Group.
