Despite the threat of a major snow storm predicted for last Monday and Tuesday, a Science Press Breakfast held at Weill Cornell on Tuesday, March 6, was attended by several health and science journalists who learned about the latest innovations in minimal-access surgery.
Explaining current applications and technology in minimal-access surgery, as well as prospects for the future, were Dr. Philip Stieg, chairman of the Department of Neurological Surgery; Dr. R. Ernest Sosa, vice chairman of the Department of Urology; Dr. Dennis Fowler, director of the new collaborative program in Minimal-Access Surgery established by Weill Medical College with Columbia's College of Physicians and Surgeons and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital; Dr. Charles Stolar, director of the collaborative program in Pediatric Surgery; and Dr. Rache Simmons, co-director of the Breast Center at NewYork Weill Cornell. Dr. Lisa Staiano-Coico, senior associate dean for research, served as moderator of the program, which was organized and hosted by Weill Cornell's Office of Public Affairs.
