At an awards program held on May 7, the Medical College awarded International Fellowship certificates to 25 medical students who completed elective projects abroad. The students worked in 13 countries: Argentina, Austria, Bangladesh, Brazil, Costa Rica, Denmark, Germany, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Nepal, Sweden and Tanzania.
"Weill Medical College is fortunate to be able to offer one of the largest international study programs for medical students in the U.S.," said Dr. Antonio Gotto, dean of the Medical College. "Working in the health-care systems of other countries and cultures," he noted, "enables Weill Cornell students to broaden their perspective on our own system of health care in the U.S."
Weill Cornell's international fellowship program is supported through the generosity of donors: the Class of 1964 (Dr. B.H. Kean Fellows), Dr. Milton Rosenbluth, the Scudder Foundation, the Max Kade Foundation and alumnus Dr. James Blankenship, '80. In addition, three students received fellowships through the United States European Medical Education Exchange program.
