Richard Kogan, pianist and clinical instructor in psychiatry.
Weill Cornell's Humanities and Medicine Series (2001-2002) continues on Wednesday, Sept. 12, with a lecture/performance on "Music and Illness (Beethoven, Schumann and Gershwin)" by pianist (and Weill Cornell psychiatrist) Dr. Richard Kogan. A renowned recitalist and orchestral soloist, who has performed in a trio with cellist Yo-Yo Ma and violinist Lynn Chang, Dr. Kogan will explore the significance of inner conflict, illness and suffering as sources of inspiration for Beethoven, Schumann, Gershwin and other noted composers. Dr. Kogan is clinical instructor in psychiatry and co-director of the Human Sexuality Program at Weill Cornell. (Klavierhaus has generously provided a Steinway grand piano for Dr. Kogan's lecture/performance.)
