Women's Health Symposium: Guests Learn About Aging Well in Heart, Mind and Body

The 19th annual Women's Health Symposium, jointly sponsored by Weill Cornell Medical College and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, was held on Oct. 17 at the Citigroup building. This year's theme was "Aging Well: Good News for the Heart, Mind and Body." Co-chairing the event were Myra Mahon and Joan Weill.

Keynote speaker Dr. Antonio Gotto, dean of the Medical College and an internationally recognized cardiologist, spoke about "A Woman's Heart." Presentations were also made by Weill Cornell faculty on the following topics: "Feel Your Best at Any Age" by Dr. Shelly Aarons, clinical instructor in psychiatry, who talked about the treatment and prevention of depression; "See Well at Any Age" by Dr. Sandra Belmont, associate professor of clinical ophthalmology and director of the Laser Vision Correction Center and the Corneal Service at NewYork Weill Cornell; and "Healthy Skin at Any Age" by Dr. Richard Granstein, chairman of the Department of Dermatology and dermatologist-in-chief at NewYork Weill Cornell. Dr. Orli Etingin, vice chairman of the Department of Medicine and professor of clinical medicine in the Departments of Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology, served as moderator. Dr. Etingin will serve as director of NewYork Weill Cornell's Iris Cantor Women's Health Center located at 425 E. 61st St.

The Women's Health Symposium provides an opportunity to highlight women's health issues and address current trends in women's health-care services. The Symposium was underwritten by Citigroup.

Proceeds from the Women's Health Symposium will be used to benefit programs at the Iris Cantor Women's Health Center. The Cantor Women's Health Center will be the most comprehensive women's health facility in New York City, providing women with specialized medical care continuing through every phase of a woman's life. When fully completed next year, the Cantor Women's Health Center will offer a team of internal medicine specialists; a breast center; an imaging center; a women's health resource center; physician's offices for obstetrics and gynecology, surgery and urology; and a patient education program.
