The Medical College and Hospital observed the three-month anniversary of the World Trade Center tragedy with a "Day of Unity" for staff and employees on Dec. 11.
The "Day of Unity" program included five sessions in the cafeteria's Cayuga Room, which was decorated with patriotic red, white and blue balloons. The one-hour sessions were scheduled to accommodate employees' work schedules on different shifts.
The dedication and unity of employees and volunteers who responded to the Sept. 11th emergency were acknowledged in remarks by Dr. Antonio Gotto, dean of the Medical College; Dr. Herbert Pardes, president of the Hospital; and Dr. Michael Berman, executive vice president and hospital director.
All participants received a specially printed Day of Unity booklet with Sept. 11 stories contributed by staff, volunteers and departments. The Day of Unity booklets were dedicated to the memory of the three Hospital EMTs who perished in the disaster—Keith Fairben, Mario Santoro and James Pappageorge.
Day of Unity booklets are available in the Hospital Human Resources Department in Payson House, 3rd floor (while supplies last).
