Dr. Orli Etingin believes that treating each patient successfully comes down to not just her own experience, but also to the "amazing teamwork" between scientists and physicians at Weill Cornell Medical College.
"Recently, I had a young patient who was diagnosed with colon cancer, and because we were able to do cutting-edge genetic testing on her tumor, we could offer her the most specific treatments available with the least toxicity," says Dr. Etingin, the Lisa and Sanford B. Ehrenkranz Professor in Women's Health and medical director of Weill Cornell's Iris Cantor Women's Health Center. "We were also able to look at her genetic profile to see if her family members were at risk, which made a big difference to her and to her children."
At the Iris Cantor Women's Health Center, a team of specialists in health care services such as breast oncology, dermatology, urology and internal medicine provide the highest quality of care to their patients. The wide recognition of their excellent patient care is due in part to the close collaboration between the physicians and researchers at Weill Cornell.
"Research benefits my patients every day," Dr. Etingin explains. "Here at Weill Cornell, we have the opportunity to work with experts who are exploring the causes of and treatments for different medical conditions. By bringing that expertise to our patients every day, we're able to do a better job treating them, taking care of them, and offering them cures."
