Dr. Ira Jacobson, the Vincent Astor Distinguished Professor of Clinical Medicine and chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, and has been named Physician of the Year by the Greater New York Chapter of the American Liver Foundation (ALF). Dr. Jacobson, who sits on the medical advisory committee for the of the local ALF chapter, is a world-renowned expert in hepatology and liver disease and has published two textbooks in the field. Dr. Douglas Dieterich, chairman of the foundation's advisory committee, as well as several members of the board of directors who are also Dr. Jacobson's patients, nominated him for the award. "Dr. Jacobson was the natural and unanimous choice to receive 2007's Physician of the Year award," said ALF Greater New York Chapter Executive Director Gina Parziale. "He has dedicated his prestigious career to helping those with liver disease and faithfully continues to embrace ALF, working hard to assist us in furthering our mission."
