Dr. Julianne Imperato-McGinley, the Abby Rockefeller Mauze Distinguished Professor of Endocrinology and professor of medicine, was selected as the 2005 "Edward H. Ahrens Jr. Award" recipient, presented by the Association for Patient-Oriented Research (APOC). The distinguished award honors Dr. Imperato-McGinley's outstanding contributions to patient-oriented research. She will also be presenting a plenary session during the 2005 National Clinical Research Annual Meeting in Washington D.C., held in conjunction with APOC, April 29-30.

Dr. John Mulhall, associate professor of urology, has been named the 2005 winner of the "Gold Cystoscope Award," presented by the American Urological Association (AUA). The award recognizes a urologist who has made outstanding contributions to the profession within ten years of completing residency training. The recipient receives a framed certificate, as well as an honorarium and an engraved gold cystoscope. The award will be presented to Dr. Mulhall during the AUA annual meeting in San Antonio, Texas, May 21-26.

Dr. Peter Schlegel, chairman of the Department of Urology, professor of urology and professor of reproductive medicine, was elected president of the Society for Male Reproduction and Urology in October, during the Society's annual meeting in Philadelphia. Dr. Schlegel was also elected to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine board of directors at the same meeting.

Dr. Steven Witkin, professor of immunology in obstetrics and gynecology, and Dr. William Ledger, the Given Foundation Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynecology, have been awarded a grant from the National Vulvodynia Association for their study on vulvar vestibulitis syndrome (VVS). The grant will aid in their research in finding the causes that predispose women to VVS and the development of effective treatment. Dr. Witkin and Dr. Ledger received their first NVA research grant in 2000.
