New York, NY (September 21, 2021) — Dr. Julia Cron has been appointed chief and vice chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, effective Oct. 1. In addition, she will serve as director of Labor and Delivery and director of Obstetrics and Gynecology Patient Safety.
Dr. Cron, who was also named assistant professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology at Weill Cornell Medicine, previously served as an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale School of Medicine and an attending physician at Yale New Haven Hospital.

In her new role, Dr. Cron will lead obstetrical and gynecological services at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital, overseeing specialized services to women in all life stages and approximately 2,000 deliveries per year. A full range of OB-GYN surgical services are available at the hospital, which is the only full-service, acute care and emergency medicine facility south of 14th Street in Manhattan. Dr. Cron succeeds Dr. Jon Snyder, who held the position since 2013 and retired in January. Dr. Georges Sylvestre is currently serving as interim site chief until Dr. Cron arrives in October.

Dr. Cron’s areas of focus at NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital will include further developing the department’s strategic and programmatic goals, implementing new operational metrics for obstetrics and gynecology clinical services and mentoring junior faculty. She has a specific interest in pediatric and adolescent gynecology and in building relationships, caring for and providing health resources to teens during a time of change and uncertainty in their lives.

Dr. Cron received her medical degree from UConn School of Medicine before completing her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins Medicine. She is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with over 22 years of experience specializing in pediatric and adolescent gynecology. She also served as program director at Yale School of Medicine’s Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences residency program.
In her new role, Dr. Cron will continue to serve as a board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. She plans to remain active with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), where she most recently served as junior fellow advisor for ACOG’s District I, which represents Connecticut. Dr. Cron is also a member of the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology, the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Cron has received multiple awards and honors. In 2018, she was awarded the National Faculty Award from the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received a Generalist Award from the Johns Hopkins Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics in 2003, and a Medical Student Educator Award from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 2002-2003.
An accomplished academic researcher, Dr. Cron has published in peer-reviewed journals on topics including contraception counseling and use among adolescents undergoing cancer treatment, fertility and parenthood in transgender and gender-expansive adolescents, and lessons learned for residency programs about OB-GYN services during COVID-19. She has given numerous oral presentations on topics such as improving diversity through inclusion of trainees with chronic health conditions, expanding training in women’s health, and developing effective quality improvement projects for OB-GYN programs.
