Dr. Rohan Ramakrishna has been appointed chief of neurological surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. Dr. Ramakrishna, who is also the Alvina and Willis Murphy Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine, will now lead the growing neurosurgery department in Brooklyn.

Dr. Ramakrishna will lead the expansion of neurosurgical services at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, offering patients access to innovative neurosurgery techniques and care. Dr. Ramakrishna has served as director of the Brain Metastases Program at Weill Cornell Medicine since 2016 and co-director of the William Rhodes and Louise Tilzer-Rhodes Center for Glioblastoma at NewYork-Presbyterian since 2017. He will continue in these capacities and plans to integrate the brain metastases program across sites.

Dr. Ramakrishna will oversee a team of world-class neurosurgeons at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital that includes Dr. Martin Zonenshayn, Dr. Michael Ayad, and Dr. Louis Chang. Dr. Chang was recently hired to expand the minimally invasive spine neurosurgery program.
Dr. Ramakrishna’s clinical and research interests center on both benign and malignant brain tumors. He also performs minimally invasive and endoscopic procedures for skull base lesions. He has led innovative clinical trials for primary glioblastoma and a multidisciplinary team to provide state-of-the-art care to patients with metastatic tumors of the brain and spine. He recently published a new text on brain metastases, Central Nervous System Metastases, which provides comprehensive information on the medical and surgical management of brain and spine metastases. He’s also published numerous articles in the field of neuro-oncology, and his research has received external funding support and awards, including most recently the Innovator of the Year Award from the Glioblastoma Foundation. Dr. Ramakrishna also actively serves in national executive committee roles for the American Association of Neurological Surgeons/Congress of Neurological Surgeons Tumor Section and Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO).
Prior to joining NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Medicine in 2014, Dr. Ramakrishna completed his fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He completed his internship and residency at the University of Washington. He received his medical degree and bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
