Dr. Philip Barie, professor of surgery, was inducted a member of the American College of Surgery Academy of Master Educators on Oct. 4 in Chicago. Developed by the ACS Division of Education, the academy recognizes surgeon-educators who have devoted their careers to surgical education.
Dr. Edgar Figueroa, director of student health and associate professor of family medicine in clinical medicine, has been awarded the Degree of Fellow from the American Academy of Family Physicians. The Degree of Fellow recognizes academy members who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues, as well as in their communities, by their service to family medicine, their advancement of healthcare to the American people, and their professional development through medical education and research.
Dr. Joseph Montano, professor of audiology in clinical otolaryngology, has been appointed to the American Academy of Audiology’s Ethical Practices Board. The Ethical Practices Committee's primary role is to educate and increase member awareness of the academy's code of ethics and the practical application of the code, rules and advisory opinions.
Dr. Shari Lipner, associate professor of clinical dermatology, has been named president of the Dermatologic Society of Greater New York, effective July 1. With about 250 members, the society is the largest regional dermatologic societies in the United States.
Dr. Crina Nimigean, an associate professor of physiology and biophysics in anesthesiology, was named president-elect of the Society of General Physiologists at its 73rd annual symposium, and will assume the presidency on Jan. 1, 2020. The society is dedicated to promoting the study of fundamental biological mechanisms through comprehensive, systematic and quantitative investigation.
