Dr. Erika Abramson, assistant professor of pediatrics and assistant professor of public health, in conjunction with Dr. Rainu Kaushal, director of the Center for Healthcare Informatics and Policy, the Frances and John L. Loeb Professor of Medical Informatics, professor of pediatrics, professor of medicine and professor of public health, authored an article selected for inclusion in the International Medical Informatics Association Yearbook of Medical Informatics. The article, titled "Physician experiences transitioning between an older versus newer electronic health record for electronic prescribing," was originally published in August 2012 in the International Journal of Medical Informatics. The yearbook honors the best articles in medical informatics published within the past year.
Dr. R.V. Paul Chan, the St. Giles Associate Professor of Pediatric Retina and associate professor of ophthalmology, was appointed to the Pan-American Association of Opthalmology's Board of Directors in July. The mission of the association is the prevention of blindness through lifelong education and cultural exchange among ophthalmologists in the Western Hemisphere.
Dr. Costantino Iadecola, director of the Feil Family Brain and Mind Research Institute, the Anne Parrish Titzell Professor of Neurology and professor of neurology and neuroscience, was the plenary speaker at the International Society of Vascular Behavioral and Cognitive Disorders' sixth Congress, hosted June 25-28 in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Iadecola's talk was entitled "Understanding Neurodegenerative and Vascular Factors in Dementia." The society's principal goal is to raise awareness of vascular factors related to brain injury and dysfunction, and to strive for consensus on vascular involvement in psychiatric, psychological, cognitive, behavioral and functional symptoms.
Dr. Alyssa Reiffel Golas, chief resident in the Department of Surgery's General Surgery Residency Program, has been awarded the department's 2013 Distinguished Housestaff Award. The housestaff awards are presented annually to one member of the housestaff from each department and one member of the housestaff quality council for all-around excellence. Recipients are chosen by department chairs and residency program directors.
Dr. Kyu Rhee, associate professor of medicine and associate professor of microbiology and immunology, was appointed to the Infectious Diseases Society of America Research Awards Committee for a four year term. The society's purpose is to improve the health of individuals, communities, and society by promoting excellence in patient care, education, research, public health and prevention relating to infectious diseases.
