Dr. David Lyden, the Stavros S. Niarchos Associate Professor in Pediatric Cardiology at Weill Cornell Medical College and professor of cell and developmental biology, has co-edited the first textbook on cancer metastasis.

"This groundbreaking new text comprehensively covers the process underlying cancer metastasis and the clinical treatment of metastatic disease," Dr. Lyden says. "The internationally renowned authors of this book have summarized the state-of-the-art research in the metastasis field. The focus is on novel pathophysiological insights and emerging therapies. Future directions for research and unmet clinical needs are discussed as well."

In addition to Dr. Lyden, other editors of "Cancer Metastasis: Biologic Basis and Therapeutics" are Dr. Danny R. Welch, associate director, Basic Science, The University of Kansas Cancer Center; and chair and professor, Department of Cancer Biology, The University of Kansas School of Medicine; and Dr. Bethan Psaila, research associate at Imperial College and specialist registrar in haematology at the Hammersmith Hospital in London.

"This text gives renewed attention to the problem of metastasis and its mechanistic basis; it is a timely and an important endeavor," says Dr. Joan Massague, Howard Hughes Medical Investigator and program chairman of Cancer Biology and Genetics at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Institute.

"Cancer Metastasis: Biologic Basis and Therapeutics," was published in April by Cambridge University Press.
