Dr. Marc Goldstein, a noted urologist and pioneer in the field of male fertility, has been selected as one of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine's 150 most distinguished graduates.
In honor of the 150th anniversary of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, the school, which was founded in 1860, is publishing a book listing the careers and achievements of those 150 graduates.
Dr. Goldstein, a Brooklyn native, graduated from the Brooklyn medical school in 1972 and has carved out an accomplished career here at Weill Cornell Medical College, where he is currently the Matthew P. Hardy Distinguished Professor of Reproductive Medicine and professor of urology; and executive director of the Men's Service Center of the Cornell Institute for Reproductive Medicine and director of the Center for Male Reproductive Medicine and Microsurgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.
Dr. Goldstein was recognized for his pioneering work in maintaining and restoring fertility in men. As a urologic surgeon at Weill Cornell, Dr. Goldstein is internationally known for his work in vasectomy reversals and the repair of varicoceles and blockages. In1984, he developed a microsurgical method for varicocelectomy, now the most common operation to treat male infertility. To date, Dr. Goldstein has published more than 230 articles, book chapter and books.
Dr. Herbert Pardes, president and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, and a 1962 graduate of SUNY Downstate College of Medicine, was also honored.
