Several faculty members of the Department of Surgery were recognized with recent honors.
Dr. Fabrizio Michelassi, the Lewis Atterbury Stimson Professor of Surgery and chairman, was the 15th Oliver H. Beahrs Visiting Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in February. It included giving grand rounds and a special dinner in his honor.
Dr. Soumitra Eachempati, professor of surgery and of public health, was named president of the New York State Chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Mia Talmor, associate professor of clinical surgery (plastic surgery), was named president of the New York Regional Society of Plastic Surgeons. This important society is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
Both Dr. Eachempati and Dr. Talmor also volunteered their services in Haiti following the devastating earthquake in January. They performed hundreds of critically needed surgeries, and brought supplies and toys for the children.
