Dr. Donald Fischman Retires

Dr. Donald Fischman, a noted educator, administrator and authority in the field of biomedical sciences, celebrated the occasion of his retirement among colleagues and friends on Nov. 6 in Griffis Faculty Club. Dr. Fischman, a 1961 graduate of Cornell University Medical College (now Weill Cornell Medical College), most recently served as the Harvey Klein Professor of Biomedical Sciences. His longstanding service to Weill Cornell also included chairman of the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy (1982–1998), senior associate dean for research in the Medical College (1992–1997) and dean of the Graduate School (1992–1997). Dr. Fischman is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the 19th Annual Maurice R. Greenberg Distinguished Service Award, the highest award bestowed by NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell and Weill Cornell Medical College.
