"Pale Faces: The Masks of Anemia,"
In his new book on anemia, Dr. Charles Bardes, professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, inspects the disease beyond its clinical characteristics and delves into the historical and social imprint of the illness.
"Pale Faces: The Masks of Anemia," is a pathography, detailing "the complete biography of a disease, comprising its cultural, literary, mythological, historical and biological dimensions."
"Anemia pointed toward paths of unusual complexity and perplexity, branching off every which way, leading into strange and unexpected territories," Dr. Bardes said.
The book, published by Bellevue Literary Press, is now available at the Weill Cornell bookstore.
