Dr. Antonio M. Gotto Jr., the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College, was inducted into the Nashville Public Schools Hall of Fame by the Nashville Alliance for Public Education at a ceremony held March 4. The award was bestowed in recognition of his achievements as a researcher and educator in the prevention of heart disease. Dr. Gotto graduated from Donelson High School in Nashville in 1953.

Sandeep "Sunny" Kishore, a Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) fellow in the Tri-Institutional MD-PhD Program, is one of 30 recipients to be awarded the Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans. The Soros Fellowships are for graduate study in the professions and academic disciplines at any institution of higher education in the United States. Eligible candidates must be naturalized citizens, hold a Green Card, or be a child of two naturalized citizen parents. Kishore, the son of south Indian parents who are now naturalized citizens, is a third-year MD-PhD candidate. He plans a career in global public health as a physician-scientist and public health advocate. "I'm thankful to the many mentors at Weill Cornell for valuable guidance and insight in my development. Weill Cornell has given the space and opportunity to mature and innovate in the large — and often nebulous — field of global health," he said. Kishore's prize marks the fourth consecutive year that a Tri-Institutional MD-PhD student has been awarded the coveted Soros Fellowship.
