The Department of Anesthesiology and the Weill Cornell Human Resources Training Division have launched a department-wide project using the Skillsoft library of e-learning courses. The project, which puts an emphasis on customer service and professionalism, allows managers to create skill development plans with employees and to require individuals to complete additional courses as part of the plan.
Louise Holmes, training manager in the Department of Human Resources, notes that Skillsoft is also a major benefit to employees, allowing them to pursue their professional development or personal interests in their spare time.
Niliaja Nixon, training coordinator in human resources, facilitated the first training meeting for the Department of Anesthesiology in August. Over 80 percent of the staff excelled with many getting a perfect score, reports Kristen Adams, anesthesiology administrator. Several anesthesiology staff members started additional courses as a result of the project. Kate Koval, a departmental research coordinator, said, "I completed the Skillsoft's 'Basics of Budgeting' course, and it helped me create better clinical trial budgets."
Skillsoft e-learning courses are available to all employees, at no charge to either the department or the individual.
