What if King Lear does not die (at the end of the play that bears his name)? Instead, imagine that he survives and he petitions the court for the return of his kingdom, claiming that he was "not competent" when he gave it to his daughters, Goneril and Regan. What testimony would medical experts offer? How would lawyers argue the case? What would a judge decide?
This imaginative and provocative "court case" and discussion will enlist the talents of two lawyers, two professors of psychiatry, a judge, a writer of world renown and an actor (below). Familiarity with the play is not necessary. This program extends an open invitation to the Weill Cornell, NYPH and Tri-Institutional community only.
