Dr. David Mininberg to Deliver Heberden Society Lecture (February 9)

Dr. David Mininberg

Dr. David Mininberg will be presenting the 2nd Heberden Society Lecture of the 2005-2006 academic year on February 9 at 5 p.m. in Uris Faculty Room (A-126) at Weill Cornell Medical College. The title of his lecture is "The Museum's Mummies: An Inside View." The Heberden Society, founded in 1975, seeks to promote interest in the history of medicine. The lecture is open to the public.

Dr. Mininberg currently holds positions of senior lecturer in urology and senior lecturer in public health (Division of Medical Ethics) at Weill Medical College. He is also an intern in the Department of Egyptian Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He has published more than 90 articles and book chapters on medicine and five articles on Egyptological/museum topics.

At the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Dr. Mininberg teaches a course on Death and Dying in Other Cultures to medical students. He also conducts tours for the general public entitled "Medicine at the Met" that include discussion of objects located in the Egyptian, Byzantine and Ancient Near Eastern galleries. Recently, Dr. Mininberg assisted James P. Allen, curator in the Department of Egyptian Art, to organize an exhibition at the museum entitled "The Art of Medicine in Ancient Egypt." (The exhibit runs through January 16, 2006.)

Dr. Mininberg previously held the Valentine Fellowship for Research in Urology at the New York Academy of Medicine. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Physician Award of the National Kidney Foundation, and was awarded a Silver Cross from the Austrian government. He is a past recipient of the Elliot Hochstein Teaching Award at Weill Medical College.
