Dr. John Laragh, professor of medicine in cardiothoracic surgery, was awarded the third annual Lewis and Jack Rudin New York Prize for Medicine and Health, bestowed by The Greater New York Hospital Association and The New York Academy of Medicine on December 14. The highly prestigious award recognizes Dr. Laragh's pioneering contributions to our understanding of the physiology of hypertension, and his instrumental role in furthering the modern theory of blood pressure as strongly involved with the kidneys, hormones and salt. The Lewis and Jack Rudin New York Prize for Medicine and Health was established to provide a forum for a distinguished member of the medical community to receive recognition from the New York health-care community, and to share his or her innovative research and strategies for addressing pressing health-care issues with researchers and clinicians in metropolitan New York.
