Dr. Michael Stewart Named Chairman of Otorhinolaryngology

Weill Cornell Medical College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Michael Stewart as chairman and professor of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology. Dr. Stewart has also been named otorhinolaryngologist-in-chief at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center, the chief clinical partner of the Medical College.

A specialist in nose and sinus disease, sleep breathing disorders, and head and neck trauma, Dr. Stewart joins Weill Cornell from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, where he served as associate professor of otorhinolaryngology and associate dean of clinical affairs. Dr. Stewart held clinical positions in various Baylor-affiliated hospitals, including chief of otorhinolaryngology at Ben Taub General Hospital, and attending physician at The Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital, and Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Dr. Stewart received his M.D. from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1988, and completed his general surgery residency in 1990 and otorhinolaryngology residency in 1994 at Baylor College of Medicine Affiliated Hospitals. He received his M.P.H. from the University of Texas School of Public Health in 1996. Dr. Stewart is the author of the textbook "Head, Face, and Neck Trauma: Comprehensive Management," and has written more than 70 peer-reviewed journal articles, numerous book chapters, and book reviews. He is the associate editor of the American Journal of Rhinology, and serves on the editorial board of the Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. In 2004, Dr. Stewart received the Distinguished Service Award from the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation.
