Weill Cornell Faculty Lead American College of Cardiology Session; Dean Gotto Delivers Prestigious Lecture

Dr. Wolk presided over the American College of Cardiology Scientific Session in Orlando.

Weill Cornell faculty held some of the most prominent positions at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Scientific Session, held the week of March 7 in Orlando, Fla. Dr. Antonio Gotto Jr., dean of the Medical College, had the honor of delivering the prestigious Louis Faugeres Bishop lecture on "Evolving Concepts of Dyslipidemia, Atherosclerosis, and CVD" – offering a historical perspective on the role of lipids in developing concepts of atherosclerosis.

Dr. Bishop, diplomate of internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, served as president of the American College of Cardiology in 1960 and conceived the idea that the college have a number of endowed lectureships to be named for the presidents and important officers of the college.

Dr. Gotto, seen here with Dr. Devereux, had the honor of delivering the prestigious Bishop lecture on atherosclerosis.




Dean Gotto was also interviewed by the New York Times about the results of Pfizer's TNT (Treating to New Targets) study, which compared large and small doses of atorvastatin and their effects on LDL and heart disease. Dean Gotto is a member of the trial's Steering Committee.

Dr. Bruce Lerman, the Hilda Altschul Master Professor of Medicine, chaired the session; co-chairs were Dr. Richard Devereux, professor of medicine, and Dr. Peter Okin, professor of medicine and director of Clinical Affairs in the Division of Cardiology at the Medical College. Dr. Michael Wolk, clinical professor of medicine, presided over the session as president of the ACC.
