Anthony Rossi, elected to the newly created Weill Cornell senator position in Cornell's graduate student assembly, with Dean Gotto.
Marking a milestone for Weill Cornell, a special announcement was made at the annual joint meeting of the Cornell University Board of Trustees and the Weill Cornell Medical College Board of Overseers, held on January 21. Anthony Rossi, president of the Class of 2008 at Weill Cornell, was nominated as the first Medical College "senator," or representative, to the Cornell University graduate student assembly. Rossi will serve as student liaison between the campuses, supporting cross-campus initiatives and strengthening relations between the student bodies.
In attendance at the summit were Sanford Weill, chairman of the Board of Overseers at Weill Cornell, Dr. Antonio Gotto Jr., dean of the Medical College, Peter Meinig, chairman of the Board of Trustees at Cornell University, and Jeffrey Lehman, president of Cornell University. Faculty reported on two examples of collaborative initiatives between the New York City and Ithaca campuses: New Drug Targets for Treatment of Tuberculosis and Malaria, and the Cornell Institute for Translational Research in Aging (CITRA). Other presentations covered the latest news in gene and stem-cell therapy and men's health.
Mr. Lehman, Dr. Gotto, Mr. Meinig, and Mr. Weill stay abreast of cross-campus initiatives.
