
Dr. Antonio Gotto delivers lecture in Doha, Qatar.
Dean Gotto Honored with 2004 International Okamoto Award
Dr. Antonio Gotto, the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College and world-renowned authority in the field of cardiovascular medicine, was honored with the 2004 "International Okamoto Award," presented by the Japan Vascular Disease Research Foundation at a ceremony held in Portland, Oregon, on May 16.
The award, the highest honor bestowed by the foundation, acknowledges Dr. Gotto's outstanding achievements and dedication in the area of cardiovascular research. Dr. Gotto also presented a special lecture entitled "Statins, Inflammation, and Cardiovascular Disease." The "Okamoto Award" was established in 1985 in memory of Dr. Kozo Okamoto, who developed Spontaneous Hypertensive Rats (SHR). SHRs now serve as the genetic model of hypertension in humans and are widely accepted in medical research.

Dean Gotto Delivers Lecture in Doha, Qatar
As part of the growing collaboration between Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, Dr. Antonio Gotto, dean of the Medical College, was a guest lecturer at the HMC in Qatar. Dr. Gotto spoke on "The Use of Cholesterol Medication in the Treatment of Cardiovascular Diseases: Present and Future Perspectives."

While in L.A., Dean Gotto met with Cornell University undergraduates who were interested in learning more about the Medical College.
Dean Gotto Meets with West Coast Alumni and Friends
Dr. Antonio Gotto, dean of the Medical College, delivered his annual "State of the Medical College" address to alumni and friends in Los Angeles on May 1 and in San Francisco on May 2. The "East Meets West" cocktail receptions, which are held every two years, were hosted by Dr. and Mrs. Gotto, Dr. Thomas McGovern, '74, president of the CUWMC Alumni Association, and Dr. Lewis Drusin, '64, executive chair of the Alumni Leadership and Outreach Committee.
