Dr. James Weinstein
The Department of Neurological Surgery will host the first-ever 2004 Lavyne/Hickrill/Weil Spine Lecture on Thursday, June 10, at 5 p.m. in the Griffis Faculty Club Lounge.
Dr. James Weinstein, chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (Lebanon, N.H.), will present the inaugural annual lecture on "Healthcare in the New Millennium."
Dr. Weinstein, professor of community and family medicine at Dartmouth Medical School, was recently named chairman of the Council on Academic Affairs of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is renowned for his expertise in lower-back pain and advocation of conservative, non-invasive approaches to its treatment. His clinical specialty interest is tumors of the spine. In addition, he is editor-in-chief of Spine, a bi-weekly, peer-reviewed, multidisciplinary journal slated as the official journal of 10 national and international societies of spinal study.
The Lavyne/Hickrill/Weil Spine Lectureship was established with funding from the Hickrill Foundation to address clinical approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the spine. This annual lecture series will help educate students and raise awareness among practicing physicians while offering an opportunity for experienced physicians to learn innovative or emerging techniques to which they might not otherwise be exposed.
