On March 4, students were welcomed to the newly renovated Archbold Commons Student Lounge. The refurbished space now features new lighting, leather seating, and carpets, in addition to the installment of Pyramid Coffee, a new vendor located near the entrance that will serve gourmet coffees, lunch and assorted pastries and snacks.

The opening was attended by Dr. Carol Storey-Johnson, senior associate dean for education and associate professor of clinical medicine, and more than 300 students. After an official ribbon-cutting, attendees were treated to a dinner catered by Pyramid Coffee.

In the past, students had expressed a desire for an informal gathering place on campus. "We wanted to warm up and brighten the space with a lounge atmosphere that is student-friendly for social gathering and studying," said Michael Keyoung (MD-PhD candidate, Class of 2005), one of the organizers of the event and former Weill Cornell student overseer. The new lounge is a place students can and will enjoy, adding, "It will foster an even more nurturing community."

Contributors and organizers of the new Archbold Commons Student Lounge include Dean Antonio Gotto and his wife, Anita; Steven Rosalie, executive vice dean and associate provost; Dr. Storey-Johnson and Jason Korenkiewicz of Academic Affairs; Jennifer McCartt, Bill Cunningham and Barry Duignan of Facilities Management; designer Nady Richard (of L'Annexe Inc.); and student organizers Michael Keyoung ('05), Jillian Polis ('05), Joseph Habboushe ('06), Nicole Jarrett ('07), Anuj Mehta ('07) and Marnie Nussbaum ('07).
