
Dr. Barron Lerner
Dr. Barron Lerner, the Angelica Berrie-Gold Foundation Associate Professor of Medicine and Public Health at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, will present the Heberden Society Lecture on Thursday, Feb. 19, at 5 p.m. in the Uris Faculty Room (A-126.) His topic will be "Did Eleanor Roosevelt Die of a Medical Error?"
Dr. Lerner, a renowned historian and internist, is author of "The Breast Cancer Wars: Hope, Fear, and the Pursuit of a Cure in Twentieth-Century America" (Oxford University Press). He has published extensively in medical and historical journals as well as in the Washington Post, and has appeared on several NPR broadcasts, including "Fresh Air."
The Heberden Society was started at Cornell in 1975 and is a loosely organized group of individuals whose goal is to promote an interest in the history of medicine. The society is named after Sir William Heberden the younger (1767-1845), who served as physician to King George III of England.
