As the launching of the new "Weill Cornell: We Care" initiative went under way, the Physician Organization Executive Committee reached out to the Weill Cornell community requesting nominations of departmental teams that exemplified care, teamwork and respect. Weill Cornell's maternal-fetal medicine sonogram scheduling team from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was chosen as the "Weill Cornell: We Care" contest winner. During the July 1st awards ceremony held on the maternal-fetal medicine sonogram floor, winners Jennie Jones, Dawn Barthelme and Liz Kravetz each received an achievement certificate and a T-shirt in recognition of their outstanding work.
Maternal-fetal medicine sonogram is an extremely busy unit supporting Weill Cornell's Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as an additional 100 doctors from an outside referral service. "We get numerous phone calls from anxious first-time patients who want a second opinion and/or a sonogram for the best specialist in the New York City area," said Amy Miller, maternal-fetal medicine divisional administrator.
The strict timeframe by which patients require both a sonogram and a follow-up consultation presents a great challenge for the scheduling team. "Scheduling these patients accurately and in a timely fashion requires great patience, organization, communication, knowledge of the field and follow-through. These three employees handle this with grace and understanding of patients' emotional states and needs," Ms. Miller added.
The Physician Organization (P.O.) has launched the "Weill Cornell: We Care" initiative, designed to fulfill Weill Cornell's dedication to excellent patient-centered care and the advancement of medical science and education. The initiative's goal is to improve the patient-care experience and create a caring environment for all patients, physicians and staff. "Weill Cornell: We Care," has been launched concurrently with the Weill Medical College Strategic Plan Phase II, "Advancing the Clinical Mission." Weill Cornell employees can view a complete list of the objectives on the P.O.'s Intranet (intranet.cornellphysicians.com).
