Within the past two years, eight students of Weill Graduate School of Medical Sciences have been awarded external fellowships from various national and international programs for their research work. The students applied for the fellowships in collaboration with their individual departments and the Graduate School's Fellowships and Outreach Office, which is directed by Dr. Brian Turner.

In addition, first-year student Peter Jordan is the second Weill Graduate School student to receive the prestigious Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Predoctoral Fellowship in Biological Sciences. (Barry Kappel, now a second-year student at the Graduate School, was the first.) The Howard Hughes Fellowship program "promotes excellence in biomedical research by helping prospective researchers with exceptional promise obtain a high-quality graduate education."

Following are the names of the eight award recipients, their respective departments, topics and information on the duration of the fellowships.
