
Dr. Michael Barry
Dr. Michael Barry, director of the Health Services Research Program and chief of the General Medicine Unit at Massachusetts General Hospital, will be the guest of Weill Cornell's Department of Public Health as the William D. Stubenbord Visiting Professor (June 4-5).
On June 4, Dr. Barry will lecture at the David Rogers Health Policy Colloquium on "Population-Based Data on the Effectiveness of Early Detection and Treatment for Prostate Cancer," in the Uris Faculty Room (A-126). On June 5, Dr. Barry will present the featured Stubenbord Lecture during a joint Department of Medicine and Department of Public Health Grand Rounds at 11 a.m. in Uris Auditorium. His topic will be "Early Detection of Prostate Cancer." During his visit, Dr. Barry will also participate in a series of lectures and meetings with Weill Cornell faculty, residents and medical students.
Dr. Barry is associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and president-elect of the Society for General Internal Medicine. He is a past-president of the Society for Medical Decision-Making and a former chair of the Eastern Section of the American Federation for Clinical Research. Dr. Barry's research interests include strategies for the evaluation and treatment of prostate disease and the use of interactive media to facilitate patients' participation in decision-making.
The William D. Stubenbord Visiting Professorships were established in 1968 by a gift from the Louis Calder Foundation "in memory of Louis Calder Sr. and Louis Calder Jr., and in recognition of the outstanding professional service and long friendship of Dr. William D. Stubenbord, '31, for them and members of their families." The departments of the Medical College are, in rotation, host to visiting scholars.
