Weill Cornell's Department of Psychiatry will host "Some Poems About Birth, Sex, Love, Death: A Conversation with Sharon Olds," on April 9, as part of the 2002-2003 Dean's Hour Lecture Series. The program, which will begin at 5 p.m. in Uris Auditorium, will be moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Auchincloss, associate professor of clinical psychiatry at Weill Cornell.
The author of several critically acclaimed volumes of poetry, including "Blood, Tin, Straw" (1999); "The Wellspring" (1996); and "The Gold Cell" (1987), Sharon Olds has been praised for "the courage, emotional power, and extraordinary physical images of her work."
An associate professor in New York University's Graduate Program in Creative Writing, Ms. Olds has helped run an N.Y.U.-sponsored poetry workshop program at Goldwater Hospital. She was New York State Poet Laureate for 1998-2000.
