Dr. Jeffrey Cohen Appointed Associate Dean for Responsible Conduct of Research

Dr. Jeffrey Cohen

Weill Cornell's Office of Research and Sponsored Programs has announced the appointment of Dr. Jeffrey Cohen as associate dean for responsible conduct of research.

Dr. Cohen joins Weill Cornell from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), where he served as the director of education and development for the Office of Human Research Protections (OHRP). As director, Dr. Cohen was responsible for OHRP's human subjects education program and the coordination of a national program of educational workshops, as well as the development and dissemination of educational materials concerning the protection of human subjects.

Prior to his work at OHRP, Dr. Cohen served in the Office for Research at the State University of New York at Albany for 20 years. As associate director for research compliance and information management, he was responsible for ensuring that all the university's research activities were in compliance with federal regulations. Dr. Cohen's information management responsibilities included developing and maintaining management systems and Web sites, as well as technical support.

Former president of the Applied Research Ethics National Association (ARENA), Dr. Cohen is active in many related organizations, such as those sponsored by PRIM&R (Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research). Dr. Cohen received his Ph.D. in experimental psychology from Northern Illinois University in 1974.
