Andrew Solomon
Weill Cornell's Humanities and Medicine Program will present "Noonday Demon," a discussion by writer Andrew Solomon, to be held on Wednesday, March 5, at 5 p.m. in Uris Auditorium.
In the program, Mr. Solomon, who has lectured on depression around the world, will talk about his experiences with serious depression. Mr. Solomon's most recent book, "The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression," has won him at least 11 national awards, including the 2001 National Book Award, and is being published in 21 languages. It was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. The book has been on the New York Times best-seller list in both hardback and paperback.
Born in New York, Andrew Solomon studied at Yale University and then at Jesus College Cambridge, where he graduated first in the university. He is a fellow of Berkeley College at Yale University and is a member of the New York Institute for the Humanities. He maintains residences in London and New York and is a dual national.
The Weill Cornell Humanities and Medicine Series, begun in 1999, offers programs that add dimension to the appreciation of medicine in a broader context, specifically as it relates to the arts and humanities. Along with contributions from outside speakers, the series will capitalize on the talents and interests of Weill Cornell students, faculty and staff to enhance the educational experience, and to enrich the community.
