Dr. E. Darracott Vaughan, chairman emeritus of the Department of Urology and the James J. Colt Professor of Urology, was honored as the recipient of the 2002 Maurice R. Greenberg Distinguished Service Award, presented by NewYork Weill Cornell Medical Center at the Greenberg Award Dinner held at the Plaza Hotel on May 2. Dr. Vaughan is the 26th recipient of the award, which is presented to a senior member of the medical staff in recognition of exceptional and long-standing service to the Medical Center. As a recipient of the Greenberg Award, Dr. Vaughan received a $50,000 grant for his research in urology.
Established in 1980, the Greenberg Award is named for one of the Medical Center's most generous benefactors, Maurice R. Greenberg, who is chairman emeritus of the Board of Trustees of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and a member of Weill Cornell's Board of Overseers.
Dr. Vaughan joined the Medical Center in 1978. Throughout his career, he has been at the forefront in research in his field, including pioneering work in renovascular hypertension, obstructive uropathy, adrenal insufficiency and benign prostatic hypertrophy. His restructuring of the Department of Urology earned it a reputation as one of the top 10 departments in the country.
