Dr. Lynne Perry-Bottinger, clinical assistant professor of medicine, made a presentation on "Effectively Tailoring Treatment for African-Americans" at the American Medical Association (AMA) media briefing on "Cardiovascular Health: Hypertension and Heart Failure" on April 18 at the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan.
Dr. Perry-Bottinger, who is a clinical and interventional cardiologist and assistant director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory at New York Hospital Queens, talked about the need for a new paradigm of treating the African-American population, the risk factors involved for African-Americans and coronary artery disease (CAD), and how to move beyond the mistrust that many African-Americans have with the health-care system.
