David Lederman, Ph.D., inventor of the Abiocor Artificial Heart and founder of Abiomed Inc., will speak about the vision and process of development of the artificial heart via an interactive videoconference from Cornell's Ithaca campus on Friday, April 12. Members of the Weill Cornell community may view the videoconference at New York City's Cornell Club (6 E. 44th St.). Lunch at the club will be served at 12:30 p.m., followed by Dr. Lederman's talk at 1:30 p.m. There is a lunch and registration fee of $25 (pay at the door). RSVP to Marike Bradford at (212) 986-7202.
The videoconference is part of a conference on "The Convergence of Engineering and the Life Sciences" being hosted by the Cornell Society of Engineers (CSE) at the Ithaca campus April 11-13. The CSE is an alumni association for Cornell engineering graduates. Dr. Lederman received his undergraduate (1966) and Ph.D. (1973 in mechanical and aerospace engineering) degrees from Cornell.
