Dr. Robert C. Ascher
Dr. Robert C. Ascher, clinical associate professor of psychiatry at NewYork Weill Medical Center, died at his home on Feb. 5 from complications of pancreatic cancer. He was 77.
A noted psychiatrist, psychoanalyst and educator, Dr. Ascher's extraordinary warmth and wisdom in supervising residents was recognized with the establishment of the Ascher-Globus Teaching Fellowship.
A native New Yorker, Dr. Ascher attended the Lincoln School of Teachers College at Columbia University, Long Island College of Medicine, and the New York Psychoanalytic Institute.
Dr. Ascher was a passionate sailor, and was the founder of the Catboat Association and a member of the New York, New Bedford, and Cuttyhunk Yacht Clubs.
Dr. Ascher is survived by his wife of 35 years, Barbara, four children and four grandchildren.
