Award-winning playwright Tony Kushner

Weill Cornell's Humanities and Medicine Program presents "An Evening with Tony Kushner," the award-winning playwright, on Feb. 13, at 6:30 p.m. in Uris Auditorium.

Mr. Kushner's most recent play, "Homebody/Kabul," is now playing off-Broadway. Written before the events of Sept. 11, "Homebody/Kabul" is about the plight of Afghanistan and the global and intellectual questions it raises.

Mr. Kushner is best known for his two-part epic, "Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes," which earned him a Pulitzer Prize and two Tony Awards, among other honors. He is a well-known, powerful social voice who takes on controversial issues in his plays by focusing on politics, sex and religion. He also tackles such issues as communism, AIDS, homophobia, hatred, our involvement with Afghanistan and our relationship to the Taliban. In all, he addresses issues of responsibility, innocence, neglect, complacency and compassion.
