The Department of Neurology and Neuroscience celebrated the completion of its new Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center with dedication ceremonies held on Sept. 25. On hand were Dr. Antonio Gotto, dean of the Medical College; Dr. M. Flint Beal, chairman of the Department of Neurology and Neuroscience, who is principal investigator of the new research center; friends of the Medical College, whose gifts were instrumental in establishing the center; and other faculty and staff. The scientific investigations of the Neurodegenerative Disease Research Center will focus on the development of therapeutic strategies to both prevent neurodegenerative diseases and halt symptom progression. While the research will include all areas of neuroscience, of particular interest will be research related to Alzheimer's, Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases, as well as A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's disease).
